Annexes, Labs, and Shops

One of IIHR’s greatest strengths has been its continuing and visionary commitment to maintaining and enhancing its experimental facilities, while at the same time pioneering efforts in high-speed computational analysis and simulation of complex flow phenomena.
This combination makes IIHR unique among fluids research laboratories, with state-of-the-art, in-house capabilities for both computational and physical modeling and experimentation. This permits varying, yet complementary, approaches for investigation and solution of a wide variety of flow problems.
The research facilities of IIHR include many hydraulics flumes, air- and water-flow units, and more routine experimental apparatus and instruments, as well as specialized facilities described on these pages. They are housed in several IIHR buildings in the Iowa City/Coralville area, and at the Lucille A. Carver Mississippi Riverside Environmental Research Station (LACMRERS), a state-of-the-art research facility set alongside the Mississippi River.
